Laura grew up in “small town” Ontario and kept fit while participating in a variety of sports like gymnastics, basketball, soccer and volleyball. Several years away at University led to a decrease in physical activity and resulted in an increase in body weight. This combination led to struggles with low self-esteem, low energy and poor mental health for Laura.

After realizing she needed to get back to doing what she loved (being active), Laura decided to make a lifestyle change and get into a gym. At the same time she began to study at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where she earned her Health Coach Certification.

As Laura began to make progress and get back on track she decided she wanted to become a Personal Trainer so she could help others make the the same positive life changes to become happier and more active, as well.

In 2014 at age 21, Laura made a bold decision to “move to where all the fit people are” and bought a one-way ticket to BC. She has never looked back.

Laura has been Personal Training since 2013 but in 2016 she met and was inspired by a fellow trainer (current Hybrid coach Kelsey Jack) and was introduced to CrossFit. It was at this time that Laura’s approach to fitness, health and life really changed.

Laura began training with Kelsey in small group training sessions and within a year she had lost a significant amount of weight, improved her fitness and performance, and became the happiest and healthiest she’s ever been.

These experiences led to Laura making the decision that it was time to move on from Personal Training in a traditional “Globo” gym setting, and to join the Hybrid team to be able to work in an environment that she truly loved and would allow her the greatest opportunity to grow and develop as a coach. She became a Crossfit Level 1 Trainer and officially joined the community here at Hybrid Athletics as a coach.

Laura still trains with Kelsey 3x a week and will jump in on classes as well. She truly sees the value in everyone having a coach. Over the years she’s worked with clients from all walks of life and with her caring, positive nature Laura aims to provide the best experience possible for all members and clients.
